DESTIN, FL (RNN) - A captain of a charter fishing boat made an unexpected catch of his own on Thursday, saving a poor cat's life.

Jordan Smith, captain of the boat Profishonal with Let's Fish Destin Charters, was passing near the Marler Bridge in Choctawatchee Bay to pick up a charter group when he noticed something being thrown from the bridge, he told the Destin Log.

Then he saw orange eyes filled with fear.

Smith said he's seen a lot of strange things, but never a living animal thrown off a bridge.

He scooped up the struggling creature with a fishing net.

"When I took it out of the net, it grabbed a hold of my arm. I held the cat all the way into the HarborWalk. It was pretty intense," Smith said.

In his Facebook post, which contains mild language, he has a message for whomever tried to doom the kitty: "PLEASE let me find out who you are."

A bystander took the cat to a veterinarian.

Smith told the Destin Log he plans to pick up the cat on Friday and give her a "furrever" home, possibly even naming her "Miracle."
