FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - A Canadian man is facing a lengthy prison sentence if convicted of traveling to Florida to have sex with someone he thought was an underage boy.

Federal prosecutors say 47-year-old Rene Roberge of Montreal is facing two charges that carry a mandatory minimum 10-year prison sentence and potentially life behind bars. Roberge made his first court appearance Monday in Fort Lauderdale. Records did not yet list an attorney for him.

Authorities say Roberge flew to Florida after making contact with undercover investigators posing on Internet networking sites as a 14-year-old boy and his father interested in arranging a sexual encounter. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents also allegedly found child pornography on Roberge's tablet computer.

Roberge is currently jailed without bail.
