MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida woman discovered a 9-foot anaconda while walking her dogs in Melbourne.
Florida Today (http://on.flatoday.com/1VMamhT ) reports Leisa Remsberg's dogs sniffed out the snake in the grass of a yard Monday morning. She says she didn't know what the object was at first, but then immediately called 911 after realizing it was a giant snake.
A neighbor later arrived and placed the snake in a container with a lid while he and Remsberg waited for authorities to respond.
Brevard County Animal Services secured the snake, which was later handed over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Officials from the commission then euthanized the snake for research purposes.
Commission spokesman Greg Workman says wildlife officers are trying to determine where the snake came from.
