TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- National Trails Day is Saturday, June 1, and officials with the Florida Trail Association are offering guided hikes to celebrate the occasion.

The hikes will take place along shaded, wide, shared use trails in Lafayette Heritage Trail Park. These paths offer views of Upper Lake Lafayette. There are three scheduled hikes; each will begin at the Piney Z Lake parking area located at the end of Heritage Park Blvd. in Piney Z Plantation, which is accessible from Conner Blvd. They are as follows:

  • 4-mile hike to Tom Brown Park and back, begins at 10 a.m.
  • 2-mile hike to the overlook vista of Upper Lake Lafayette, begins at 11 a.m.
  • 1-mile hike to a second vista point, begins at noon

The difficulty level for these trails is easy with few steep climbs or challenging terrain. Officials ask participants to arrive 15 minutes early, always wear sturdy shoes and bring water, insect repellant and sunscreen.  A small towel and a snack are helpful additions.
