TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida TaxWatch President Dominic Calabro spoke about an amendment on the ballot that could cause a one billion dollar tax increase across Florida.
He's referring to Amendment 2. If approved, it would put a permanent cap on annual property tax increases.
Calabro says this cap has been in place for the last 10 years. It expires at the end of the year.
"This one is really good for the economy," Calabro said. "It's good for everybody, but the people who are really going to get socked the most are renters, seniors on fixed income, and others. But particularly small business owners that could see their property taxes rise by 20, 30, even 40 percent."
Calabro says if 60 percent of Floridians vote yes it will keep property taxes capped at a 10 percent increase for another decade.
