TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Supreme Court is unsealing documents and a transcript from this summer's trial over congressional districts.
The court on Tuesday posted online 538 pages related to redistricting that had belonged to Republican consultants. The consultants had fought for months to prevent them from becoming public.
Many of the documents were obtained over the weekend by media organizations including The Associated Press. They showed the role played by GOP consultants in drawing up new legislative and congressional districts.
The documents were key evidence cited by a judge when he ruled Florida's congressional map violated a state law that says districts cannot be drawn to favor incumbents or a political party.
Additional material unsealed on Tuesday includes a transcript from portions of the redistricting trial that was closed to the public.
