TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - More than 6,000 new Florida State University students received a warm welcome Sunday before they start the fall semester.

The fall convocation at the Tucker Civic Center featured remarks from FSU president John Thrasher and keynote speaker Adam Putnam, the state's commissioner of agriculture.

"Y'all are the brightest, on paper, class in the history of Florida State University," Thrasher said, addressing the new 'Noles. "Grade point average, SATs, ACTs. You are the best."

Freshman Josh Eloi said he's ready to start his time as a Seminole.

"Honestly, it's a good day -- a bunch of free food. You can't go wrong with that," he said. "The Florida State experience, the people, the football games -- just the whole college experience is gonna be fun."

Monday also marks the start of the fall semester at Florida A&M University.
