TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Florida State University has recently moved up to be ranked No. 38 out of all the public national universities according to the U.S. News and World Report.
Of the top 50 public universities, Florida State has had the greatest gain. The previous year, FSU ranked No.43. The university has jumped an impressive 5 spots from last year's Best Colleges guidebook.
"We are extremely pleased that U.S. News & World Report has recognized the significant gains FSU has made in its pursuit of higher levels of academic excellence," said President John Thrasher. "This upward movement is a testament to the hard work of our exceptional faculty, staff and students who continue to make FSU one of the best universities in the nation."
Florida State University's graduation and student retention rates are some of the most important aspects in regards to the university's newly claimed rank. Originally, predicted with a 70 percent graduation rate, Florida State exceeded expectations with a 79 percentile.
"Our faculty are to be commended for providing our students with an excellent education and helping them graduate with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in 21st century careers.," Thrasher said.
Improvements among reputation ratings have improved as well with university peers and high school guidance counselors, and even faculty resources. In regards to Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Sally McRorie these where some key factors that contributed to FSU's climb.
"This year's ranking reflects the academic rigor and culture of student success that has long distinguished Florida State University as one of the best research institutions in the country," McRorie said.
In the university's continuing efforts to make long term investments, they have founded relationships with new faculty hired, made market equity improvements and improved retention.
When compared to all national universities, even private institutions, FSU now ranks 92nd compared to last years 96th rank.
