TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida State's Homecoming week is getting started.

Students were hard at work Monday morning kicking off this year's Homecoming events with a community mural project in the Student Union.

The goal of the mural project is to bring the student body together and create something that represents the diversity of the university. The format is paint by letters, so anyone can participate regardless of artistic ability.

The Power of We student organization chose this format to make it friendly for all students to help paint.

"We're really excited," said Ed Bonahue, who's on the executive board of the Power of We organization. "Super happy that we get to have a bunch of different FSU students from different areas of campus come together to make an art piece with us."

Two bachelor of fine art students at Florida State have been designing the mural for several months.

The final home of the mural will be in the new Student Union once it's built. Until then, sections will be located throughout campus to display the work the students have done.
