Florida sex offender accused of raping woman, throwing her off bridge

NORTH PORT, FL (WWSB) - A man who allegedly raped a woman at gunpoint then threw her off a bridge in Fort Myers has been arrested in Sarasota County.

Melvin Williams was taken into custody in North Port after leaving a hotel in Port Charlotte. The sheriff's office says the 20-year-old registered sex offender was wanted on a warrant in Lee County for the alleged crime.

Williams has a prior conviction from April 2017 of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim under 12-years-old by an offender under 18-years-old.
