TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A major gambling bill is having trouble moving ahead in the Florida Senate.
A key Senate panel on Tuesday postponed a vote on a proposed deal with the Seminole Tribe of Florida that would allow the tribe to add craps and roulette at their existing casinos. The bill would also allow slot machines to be added at existing dog and horse tracks across the state.
Sen. Tom Lee, the chairman of the Senate committee considering the bill, was unsure if the Senate will reconsider the legislation before the end of session. The session is scheduled to end March 11.
Lee said that some senators remained opposed to the bill because it is a significant expansion of gambling.
The Florida House has rejected gambling bills during the past few sessions, but the bill was moving in that chamber this year.
