FLORIDA (wtxl) - Florida's crime rate drops in the first half of 2014.
This year's semi-annual uniform crime report, released today, shows crime volume dropped 2.4%. That's 8,133 fewer crimes committed than the first six months of 2013.
According to the report, law enforcement officers made 444,558 arrests from January through June of this year.
While crime was down overall, violent crime was up slightly, at 0.1%. And nonviolent crime was down 2.8%. Overall, domestic violence raised nearly a half percent, and during the reporting period the number of domestic violence murders increased. But the number of manslaughters declined.
