TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida's historic redistricting trial is now proceeding behind closed doors.
Circuit Judge Terry Lewis removed members of the public and the media from the proceedings on Thursday, before viewing sensitive evidence obtained from a Gainesville-based political firm.
Plaintiffs believe the documents will help prove that the Florida Legislature deliberately drew up political maps in a way that benefits Republicans.
Attorneys for the legislatures deny those claims. If a judge finds the maps unconstitutional, lawmakers could be forced to redraw them.
