TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - During the month of November the Florida Department of Education is focusing on getting parents involved in their children's schooling.
Tuesday at DeSoto Trail Elementary School in Tallahassee, Florida's Commissioner of Education and Leon County's School Superintendent met with parents to emphasize the importance of family involvement in promoting student success.
The elementary school's principal, Michele Keltner said, "Students are more successful when their parents are supportive. They know what's happening at the school, they can support all the events that are happening here, they understand the curriculum, they know exactly where to kind of plug in and what's happening in the school in order for us to be successful."
Keltner said that DeSoto has been working to strengthen their parent involvement by engaging families on Twitter, Facebook, and through weekly newsletters.
