TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Governor Ron Desantis wants Florida high school seniors to take a civics exam similar to the one taken by people who want to become U.S. citizens.
The Governor will direct Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran to require all high school students to take the test but it won't be a graduation requirement.
"And Washington and I think pretty much all the founder really believed that when you're doing education and you're defusing knowledge -- part of the reason is that you'll have people continuing this experiment in self-government," said Governor Desantis.
Florida law already requires students to take civics classes.
