DAVENPORT, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a man walking on a train track in central Florida was hit and killed by a passenger train.
The Miami-bound Amtrak train was traveling at 50 miles per hour Monday when the conductor spotted the man walking ahead on the tracks.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office reports that the conductor blew the train's horn and applied the brakes, but the train was unable to stop in time.
A sheriff's spokeswoman say the man didn't appear to acknowledge the approaching train.
He was pronounced dead at the scene hasn't been identified yet.
