TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The Florida Lottery says they have reached a new milestone when it comes to revenue generated for education.
With the latest transfer to the state's education trust fund, they have now contributed $29 billion. This is over 28 years of operation as of January 12th.
The Florida Lotto has seen record sales for five of the first sixth months of this fiscal year, and they say total sales to date are seven percent higher than for the same period last year. That ends up with an average of more than $100 million a month to benefit education.
$5 billion of this trust has gone towards Florida's Bright Future Scholarship Program.
The florida lottery is the second largest-selling lottery in the country in terms of sales and net revenue.
IFlot represents about 6-percent of the state's total education budget.
