TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A group Florida of legislators have released a letter saying the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees have been, "...improperly reaching beyond [their] legally proscribed authority."

In the letter Senator Arthenia L. Joyner, Senator Dwight Bullard, Representative Mia Jones, Representative Shevrin Jones, and Representative Bobby Powell call attention to what they claim are deeply troubling public statements and recent events.

The letter claims that since Dr. Elmira Mangum was selected as FAMU President, her leadership has been questioned by BOT Chairman Rufus Montgomery in ways that, "...are bordering dangerously close to bullying."

The Legislators say that Montgomery's actions have also recently intensified with demands that, "... are unwarranted and detrimental to the effective

operation of the university as a whole."

It goes on to say that the jobs of the trustees are limited to policy and they should not include themselves in day-to-day operations of the university because that is the job of the president.

Claims are also made that other board members have interjected themselves into University operations, making it so Mangum must, "...subvert her own authority by yielding to theirs."
