TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A Florida legislator wants a criminal investigation into Planned Parenthood.

Rep. Charles McBurney, a Jacksonville Republican and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, asked for investigation in a letter Friday to the head of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

A spokeswoman for FDLE had no immediate comment on the request.

Planned Parenthood has come under congressional scrutiny after the release of two secretly recorded videos that showed officials discussing how they obtain organs from aborted fetuses for research. Abortion opponents say the videos show the organization is illegally harvesting and selling organs.

McBurney in his letter noted that selling organs is against Florida law.

Planned Parenthood's president, Cecile Richards, has said the group has done nothing illegal and is the target of a political smear campaign.
