TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida's top insurance regulator is delaying his resignation amid an ongoing stalemate over who should replace him.
Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty told Gov. Rick Scott and members of the Cabinet on Wednesday that he would stay on the job until 45 days after a new commissioner is picked.
McCarty's last day was supposed to be May 2, but Scott and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater have been unable to agree on a successor.
Scott and the three members of the Florida Cabinet must vote on a new commissioner, but both the governor and chief financial officer have veto power over the choice.
Atwater said Wednesday he's unsure when a new commissioner will be picked.
