TALLAHASSEE, Fla (WTXL) -- Death row inmate Paul Howell is scheduled to be executed by the state Wednesday evening.
According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Howell is scheduled to get a lethal injection at 6 p.m. for the 1992 death of Highway Patrol Trooper Jimmy Fulford.
Howell was convicted of killing the trooper with a pipe bomb intended to kill two Marianna women.
Attorneys for Howell have been working to stop the execution.
One of their arguments focused on the drug Midazolam Hydrochloride, which is used in the lethal injections. According to the lawyers, Howell suffers from a medical condition that would cause him to have a painful death, violating the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment.
