TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Two Florida House democrats joined advocates from Planned Parenthood, the National Organization for Women, and other liberal-leaning groups today to detail their concerns with President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch.

During a news conference at the capitol in Tallahassee, State Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith said Gorsuch's current record as a judge is concerning, especially on issue like abortion and LGBT rights.

Smith also says the vacancy caused by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia nearly one year ago should have been filled long ago.

"We are opposed to this nominee, not only because of the fact that the person who is being nominated stands against our core values of freedom and equality, but also because it shouldn't have been Trump's nominee to begin with," said State Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith, D- Orlando.

Judge Merrick Garland was nominated by President Barack Obama to replace Scalia, but the Republican-led Senate never held confirmation hearings on Garland, who has since gone back to being a judge in Washington, D.C.
