TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The number of people suffering from Alzheimer's continues to increase in the US, with Florida being the second highest state with the number of dementia patients.

Data from the Alzheimer's Association of Central Florida shows more than 540,000 people aged 65 and older in Florida suffer from the disease.

Researchers predict numbers to increase because there is no cure or steps to prevent it.

"So many people are living in the community around Tallahassee. We have about 7,500 to 8,000 people diagnosed just in the Tallahassee area with Alzheimer's," said David Huckabee from the Alzheimer's Association of Central Florida. "We want people to be are aware not only of what the disease looks like, the warnings signs, how to get a diagnosis, but also the resources that are available."
