TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - New restrictions on abortion and changes to Florida's death penalty are among a long list of new laws that are taking effect.
New graduation standards for high school and a law that makes it easier for landlords to evict tenants also are among the more than 150 measures going into effect Monday. The laws were passed this year by the Florida Legislature.
The death penalty changes have already triggered a legal challenge.
The abortion measure will require medical care for newborns who survive botched procedures.
An attempt to snuff out bongs also becomes law, though there are questions as to how effective it will be. The measure makes it illegal for shops to "knowingly and willfully" sell the pipes for use to consume illegal drugs.
