TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Strong words were exchanged on Twitter Thursday between Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum and Florida's commissioner of agriculture.

Gillum and Putnam, both running for Florida governor, were duking it out on Twitter Thursday after a tweet from Putnam regarding a PolitiFact article:

PolitiFact wrote that while Gillum has made comments vowing to fight against President Donald Trump's attack on sanctuary cities, they found no record of Gillum pushing for a statewide policy on the matter.

As a result of their findings, PolitiFact rated Putnam's claims as "Half True."

In response, the Republican gubernatorial candidate thanked PolitiFact on Twitter for the "Half True" and asserted that no such policy would happen on his watch.

About 30 minutes later, Gillum responded with a clap back of his own, calling the commissioner "half true and all racist":

"I’m proud to stand up for all people," Gillum wrote, "precisely what Floridians expect of their leaders."

Putnam later retweeted a response to Gillum's comment that said, "It is not racist to want to stop the flow of illegal immigrants. It is @AdamPutnam ’s goal to keep Floridians safe from criminals, particularly those who are in our country illegally, like the person who shot Kate Steinle."

What do you think about sanctuary cities?
