Florida governor signs bill allowing permanent Daylight Saving Time

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Governor Rick Scott has signed a bill that would allow the entire state of Florida remain in Daylight Saving Time year-round.

The Governor's Press Office made the announcement Friday.

Though Scott has signed the Sunshine Protection Act to declare the Legislature's intent to observe Daylight Saving Time year-round, it falls on Congress to amend existing federal law to allow the change.

If also approved by Congress, Florida will no longer set their clocks back in the fall with the rest of the Eastern United States and will instead see more sunlight in winter. 

Along with the Sunshine Protection Act, Scott has signed another 73 bills into law, to include a bill that increases penalties for animal cruelty.

Taxes and Fees for Veterans and Low-Income Persons – This bill cuts taxes and fees by creating an exemption from local business taxes for honorably discharged veterans and their spouses, allowing veterans to receive an identification card or driver license with the word “Veteran” at no cost, and reducing driver license service fees for veterans.
