TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott has signed a new state budget and vetoed more than $256 million of spending.
Scott signed the $82 billion budget on Thursday, following through with planned budget vetoes he announced earlier this week.
State legislators wrapped up their annual session last week. They approved a budget that did not include many of Scott's top priorities.
The Republican governor vetoed dozens of spending items, including money for roads, cultural projects, health care and law-enforcement programs.
This year's total amount of budget vetoes is less than half of what the governor eliminated last year. Last year, his nearly $500 million worth of budget vetoes sparked the ire of top legislators since they came with little notice.
