(WTXL) - Florida gas prices rose two cents overnight after declining for six consecutive weeks, according to the AAA.

Gas prices declined for most of the past 45 days, with the state average falling 18 cents during that span.

The average price on Christmas Day, $2.35, was only three cents higher than the year before, and the highest for the holiday in three years.

The most expensive gas prices in Florida are in West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, $2.51, and naples, $2.45.

The least expensive gas price averages in Florida are in Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, $2.29, Jacksonville, $2.30, and Orlando, $2.31.

"We may see moderate increases at the pump this week, but the downward trend should resume in the new year," said Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman. "After the holidays, gasoline demand takes a sharp turn lower because fewer people take extended road trips in January."

Jenkins said that motorists should prepare for the seasonal 30 - 70 cent surge in the spring as refineries conduct maintenance.
