TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida Forest Service firefighters are being sent to battle blazes in Oklahoma and other western states.

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam said Tuesday that the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is sending 20 people to battle the Winter Valley Fire in Oklahoma.

Putnam said in a news release said that "29 single resources have been assembled from around the state to assist with wildfire suppression in Colorado, Wyoming, Texas, Utah and New Mexico."

The firefighters will fill a variety of roles, including front-line firefighting, firefighter safety and incident management.

Florida can lend support to other states because of "the recent rainfall and current low wildfire danger levels across Florida," said Florida Forest Service Director and State Forester Jim Karels.
