LARGO, Fla. -- A 20-year-old man is accused of suffocating his infant daughter.
Largo police say Stephen Johnson was arrested Tuesday night after detectives conducted a follow up interview regarding the death of 8-week-old Leah Johnson.
According to police, Johnson said he found the baby face down and unresponsive on the couch July 24 after he woke up from taking a nap with her.
She was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead.
Johnson is accused of forcing the child's face into his chest and shoulder area until she stopped breathing.
Johnson is charged with first-degree murder and remains in the Pinellas County Jail. Records don't indicate whether he's hired an attorney.
