Florida (wtxl) - Florida Department of Corrections officials are promising to make prisons safer.
This comes after criticism for how the agency handles inmate deaths.
The department says they will improve transparency and beef up investigations. The DOC Secretary says that they are "fixing the problems that have been identified." Adding, he will give the Florida department of law enforcement authority to investigate deaths at prison facilities that are the result of any non-natural causes. This includes 82 active cases.
