TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The community gathered together Tuesday to celebrate the inauguration of Florida's 12th Commisioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Nikki Fried.

Supporters filled the Turnbull Center on Florida State University's Campus to honor the newly sworn in commissioner.

During the event, people enjoyed a meal while they heard from different guest speakers.

According to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Fried is the first woman elected to the cabinet position.

One Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives spoke for the party as he expressed his support for the newly elected Commisioner.

Kionne McGhee, a Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives, said: "We are ready to stand with you to protest the interests that so many have been waiting for. So we stay thank you very much. We look forward to working with you. Let's get this party started."

As the newly elected commissoner of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Fried will oversee a $1.8 billion department with nearly 4,000 employees.

Some of her top priorities include working toward reducing water pollution and providing more accountability when it comes to weapons licensing.
