Florida Court Reversed Itself on Slots

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A Florida appeals court now says slot machines cannot be installed at several Florida dog and horse tracks.

The 1st District Court of Appeal on Friday reversed an earlier decision where it said slot machines could be installed at a facility 25 miles west of Tallahassee.

The court ruled in May that slot machines were allowed because Gadsden County voters approved a referendum authorizing them.

Attorney General Pam Bondi asked for a rehearing. The court this time ruled 2-1 against the owners of the Gretna track.

One reason the outcome was different is because one of the judges who considered the case has retired. He's been replaced by a different judge.

The appeals court asked the Florida Supreme Court to consider the case because of its statewide importance.
