TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (The News Service of Florida) - After three days of floor debate, the State Constitution Revision Commission ended its initial session this week, approving 25 proposals that could be on the November general-election ballot.

The proposed changes to the State Constitution now move to the commission's Style and Drafting Committee, which has the power to amend and group the proposals before they return to the panel for a final vote in April.

That committee began meeting Thursday.

Among the proposals still under consideration are an off-shore oil drilling ban, a ban on greyhound racing, a workplace ban on vaping, and school board term limits.

Commissioner Brecht Heuchan, Chairman of the Style and Drafting Committee, says the total number of proposals still needs to be consolidated in order to avoid voter ballot fatigue.

"When people have asked whether ten is too many, or eight is too many, or 15 is too many, I don't have an answer to that," said Heuchan. "I'm more focused on the process, so that the product can be good because the process was good."

The Style and Drafting Committee is also charged with creating the ballot summary of each proposal that people may see in the voting booth in November.
