TRENTON, Fla. (AP) - A corrections officer has been fired following a criminal investigation.

The Florida Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General arrested Demonds Jackson on Wednesday. He's charged with culpable negligence and exposing another to injury.

The charges stem from a June 29 incident at Lancaster Correctional Institution. The investigation revealed that an inmate was battered by other inmates due to Jackson's failure to maintain care, custody and control of those he was supposed to be supervising.

Secretary Julie Jones said the agency has "zero tolerance" for anyone who fails to abide by the department's values.

Jackson was taken to the Gilchrist County Jail. It's not known whether he's hired an attorney.
