ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Hardly any of Florida's 67 clerks of court plan to issue marriage licenses to gay couples on Jan. 6.
A survey of Florida's clerks by The Associated Press shows that many clerks are paralyzed by uncertainty over what they should do on the day a ban on same-sex marriages is lifted.
Only the Osceola County clerk says he plans to issue marriage licenses for gay couples.
The overwhelmingly majority of clerks say they're waiting for further clarification from a federal judge on whether his order applies to counties other than Washington County.
The remote Panhandle county became the focus of Florida's gay marriage debate after a lawsuit from there became the basis for the judge's ruling that Florida's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.
