TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida's chief justice wants to take a closer look at the security in place at courthouses across the state.
Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Jorge Labarga on Monday announced that he was ordering the creation of a trial courthouse security workgroup.
The group, which will include judges from across the state, will be led by Circuit Judge Margaret Steinbeck from Fort Myers and will be in place for the next two years.
Labarga is going to ask the group to evaluate security now in place at courthouses and establish criteria for a statewide reporting system of security incidents at courthouses.
Many courthouses have metal detectors at their entrances, but some such as those in smaller rural counties do not.
