BAINBRIDGE, GA (WTXL) - Morning commutes may soon be interrupted for drivers on U.S. 27 in Bainbridge.
The Georgia Department of Transportation announced that the bridge that crosses the Flint River will soon be closed for repairs. The closure will begin at the Shotwell Street off ramp and extend to the State Route 38 off ramp.
The closure will begin Friday at 8 p.m., but traffic is expected to return to normal as closures should be lifted by 5 a.m. Monday.
After State Route 38 has been closed, contractors will be working on the bridge deck joint and underneath the bridge. A detour route will be marked for the remainder of the restoration project.
As in any work zone, the department has reminded motorists to pay special attention to traffic control devices, signs and posted speed limits to ensure safe passage though the work zone for the workers present and the motorists traveling through.
