TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The little girl whose legs were severed by a lawn mower has suffered a setback as she recovers from her injuries.
The Tampa Bay Times reports doctors found an infection in one of her legs, leading to another surgery for 2-year-old Ireland Nugent on Tuesday.
A family spokesman told the newspaper she will need two more surgeries in the coming weeks. Doctors removed inflamed tissue after a skin graft on her right leg wasn't successful.
The girl was injured April 11 when her father was riding a lawn mower up the driveway at their Palm Harbor home. She ran behind him and her mother frantically motioned for him to stop. He misinterpreted and backed up the mower, running over the girl's legs.
She lost both legs below the knees.
