JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A Jacksonville kindergarten teacher has been fired after an investigation found she hit students with books.

The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/YI5ekp ) reports Beverly Howard was fired April 2, following a Duval County Public Schools investigation.

The investigation began when a parent told Sheffield Elementary School Assistant Principal Lindsey Connor that the teacher was hitting students regularly.

Connor says she interviewed students and their comments matched the allegations from the parent. The newspaper reports that one student told Connor, "she hits me with the book."

According to documents, Howard told Connor that she would not "write a statement" because she "never hit a student."

Howard's file includes two other incidents. She denied a 1995 incident where a principal overheard her yelling at a student to "get out before I throw you out."
