FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - A Lee County Sheriff's deputy has been placed on administrative leave after his arrest on drug charges.

Deputy John Eaton was released from the Lee County Jail on $3,500 bail following his arrest on Monday.

According to a sheriff's office statement, officials obtained a sworn statement revealing the deputy's suspected drug use. Investigators got a search warrant for Eaton's residence, where they found vials of steroids, marijuana and an aluminum can that had been modified to smoke marijuana.

The reports says the deputy used the illegal substances as recently as two days before his arrest.

Eaton joined the sheriff's office in 2005 and most recently was assigned to patrol in Bonita Springs.

An attorney was not listed on jail records. An internal affairs investigation is underway.
