TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – The Florida Department of Corrections is bringing in extra water and food supplies to all Panhandle facilities to prepare for Hurricane Michael.

Decisions to evacuate facilities will be made on a cases-by-case basis and will be in the best interest of the inmates, staff and public safety, FDC said in a news release Monday.

Department staff are working around the clock to make preparations for inmates in facilities in the path of the storm.

Probationers on community supervision will be given instructions from their probation officers if evacuations are deemed necessary, FDC said.

In the event of an institution evacuation, announcements will be made upon completion. Inmate locations will be posted on the website approximately 24-hours after relocation, per standard protocol.
