WAKULLA COUNTY, FL (WTXL) - The Wakulla County Sheriffs Office has suspended five deputies as a result of "insensitive" comments they made on social media about the events in Ferguson, Missouri.

Sheriff Charlie Creel suspended the deputies with pay, since they are protected under civil service. He has made a committee made up of an Internal Affairs Lieutenant and outside officials to investigate. It is unclear how long it will take, but Sheriff Creel says he wants it done "as soon as possible."

The suspended officers are Undersheriff Trey Morrison, Sgt. Eddie Wester, Detective Richard Moon, Detective Rick Buckley and Detention Deputy Jeff Carroll.

Sheriff Creel attended an NAACP meeting Friday regarding the comments made by Detective Moon, who was the first to be suspended.

Sheriff Creel says that "law enforcement officials have a right to comment about social issues on social media, but they must be cognizant of the fact that what they say reflects on the agency that they work for."
