LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga.  (WTXL) - Nearly half a dozen churches in Lowndes were the targets of what deputies are calling a burglary crime spree.

The churches are Swilly Hill, Saint Marks Baptist Church, Korean First Presbyterian Church, Corinth Baptist Church and Unity Primitive Baptist Church. They have all been hit.

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office says the majority of the break-ins are happening in rural, poorly lit areas with churches that have smaller congregations or only meet once a week.

Authorities believe the thieves are targeting the same items at each location, instruments and audio equipment.
