(WTXL) - The first meteor shower of the year will make its celestial debut tonight.

According to NASA, the best time to watch the peak is Thursday night into Friday morning, because the Quadrantids only peak for a few hours. However, during its peak, 60 to as many as 200 meteors can be seen per hour.

What makes the Quadrantids so special is their large, bright and colorful fireball meteors that are made of larger particles from an asteroid.

NASA says people in the Northern Hemisphere will have the best chance to see the show.

Space.com is predicting the Quadrantids to peak at 10 p.m. ET (or 7 p.m. PT), though they say they've sometimes been spotted hours early or late.

To view the Quadrantids, NASA recommends you find an area away from city or street lights and lie flat on your back with your feet facing northeast.

Be patient, in less than 30 minutes your eyes will adjust and you'll have a chance to see the celestial display.
