Firefighters and police in Monticello are on the scene of an early morning fire at Jefferson County Elementary School.
According to Al Cooksey, Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools, police patrolling the area about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday morning saw smoke coming from the school. Firefighters responded and have since put out the fire. Cooksey says it seems to be electrical in nature and impacted a few classrooms at the school.
Superintendent Cooksey says due to the fire, they have canceled school today (Wednesday) for Jefferson County Elementary School, but says it will be back in session on Thursday.
