EASTPOINT, Fla. (WTXL) - Residents of the community devastated by the Lime Rock Fire returned home Tuesday.

"It's a complete loss. It's terrible," said Thomas Gorski, who lost everything in the fire. "I don't know what I'm going to do."

Burnt boats, charred trucks, and the remnants of what used to be Thomas Gorski's home. When the Lime Rock fire ripped through his neighbor Sunday evening, Gorski says he was only concerned about making sure his neighbors got out safe.

Just a few days ago, residents had no idea what they would return home to. They just knew that they had to escape from the massive wildfire tearing through their neighborhood.

"I wanna go home," said Christy Russell, who sought shelter during the fire. "But I'm scared to see what everything looks like."

"A lot of people lost their homes," said Gorski. "Here I was trying to save other people, and didn't know that I would lose my home and everything that I own."

Gorski says moving back in with his mother wasn't a part of the plan.

He explained, "I was remodeling the other one so that I could move her out here with me." And Gorski says that because he didn't have insurance, he's not sure what comes next.

"I'm sittin' here crying," he lamented. I thought I was all cried out but obviously I'm not."

Even though most of Gorski's neighbors are in the same boat, those who were sparred the worst of the fire have come together to help.

"People didn't have insurance. I'm not the only one who lost my home. There was about 40 homes destroyed and people are homeless now," said Gorski. "Everybody's just reaching out trying to help a little bit and just trying to get through this."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
