LIVE OAK, Fla. (WTXL) - A structure fire on Wednesday night claims the lives of 24,000 two-day old chickens.
Suwannee County Fire and Rescue says they were called out to the blaze just before 11 p.m. at Saavedra Farms.
Crews say when they arrived, one of the farm's chicken houses was in flames. They quickly worked to make sure the fire did not spread to the other houses and nearby propane tanks.
Crews worked through the night to control the blaze, but one of the chicken houses, which was full of livestock at the time, was a total loss.
