TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - U.S. Forest Officials say Friday evening around 4 p.m., a crew member spotted smoke from the Clear Lake Wilderness Area. The U.S. Forest Service responded and found 73 acres of land up in flames.
Officials say the fire reached up to approximately 450 acres however it has died down and is being contained.
"We scouted. Did a little bit more scouting and set up a perimeter to try to contain the fire and hold it within," said U.S. Forest Official Jason Lago. "We worked through Friday evening and night and was able to do that and hold it on a creek. Still right now this time it's checked it up and it's holding."
Officials say U.S. Forest Service investigators have determined the fire is "human caused" and will be monitoring the area for the next 15 days.
