DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - A Decatur County home has been destroyed after an early morning fire on Spring Creek Road.
The Decatur Fire and Rescue along with several volunteer fire departments responded to a structure fire around 1:30 a.m. at Spring Creek Rd.
As the fire units arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed with flames. Officials say the homeowner had been staying in a travel trailer right next to the residence while he remodeled his home.
Fire personnel say the resident woke up to find the fire extending from the house onto the trailer, but he was able to crawl out of a window of the trailer to safety.
The home was declared a total loss.
